Week of March 18th-22nd

Home Stretch of Reading Month!

  • Students have individual passports to track their Reading Counts points and other Reading Adventures. Passports are collected every Friday and returned the same day.
  • It's important for students to read at home so they can get as many points as possible!
  • There are raffles each week for students who have earned the required 3 points per week. Our class goal is 100 points per week.
  • If students also complete the Reading Adventures in the passport, they will have an opportunity to get an additional raffle ticket.
Calling All Colors
Over the next few weeks, students will be participating in Calling All Colors.  The program is designed to bring children from Benton Harbor and Saint Joseph together for a series of multicultural educational experiences. The program consists of two workshops that take place at the Boys and Girls Club of Benton Harbor at the Fettig Youth Center. While at the workshop, the children participate in a variety of hands-on activities with their partner class, both in large and small groups. Feel free to contact the Program Director if you’d like to volunteer your time (maryaliceyogi@gmail.com).

Reading Quest:  To help Mrs. Allen travel around the world.  We can do this by reading daily and by participating in a passport of reading adventures.

New this year for Reading Month:

Every week, the principals will be traveling to different locations around the world.  Clues will be given on the news daily and classrooms will have an opportunity to guess which continent and country Mrs. Allen is exploring that day.  A link to a Google Form will be available on the media center page so classrooms can make guesses each day. The answers will be revealed on Friday and classes with the correct answers will be announced.  Each principal will also record a story from some place around the world that will be shared with classes via a link on Fridays.

  • Individual passports to track minutes read/Reading Counts and other Reading Adventures (Passports will be collected every Friday, counted, and returned on that same day.)
