thin tipped dry erase markers
gym shoes (many have outgrown now)
earbuds/headphones (many are broken or don't work)

Seesaw

We are in the early stages of trying out a new app designed to make communication between home and school easier. The app allows families to see completed work and send encouraging messages to your child about his/her accomplishments. It also allows the teacher to send quick reminders, updates, or tips about classroom activities. We are hoping that this makes communication between home and school easier! Please remember that we as teachers are learning to use the program so we welcome your feedback. If you would like to get on and try, your child's teacher will send a link in the email with today's blog information. We would love for you to try!

Winter Is Here!

Please remember the following:

1. Students go outside unless the wind chill is under 10 degrees.
2. Label all gear--many students have the same gear and confusion does happen.
3. Students must go outside unless there is a doctor's note.

Welcome Back!

Here's What We've Been Up To in 3rd Grade:
Reading We are finishing up our Trickster Tales with a summary and a snowman! If you are at E.P. Clarke, come take a look as they will decorate our hallway. Students have also started reading the book Tornado. We are using literature circles to discuss, predict, and learn new vocabulary.

Word Study:  Next week we will begin the long i patterns in accented syllables: students will be breaking up long i patterns into two or more syllables and finding which syllable has the long i sound. Examples this week include: surprise, polite, minus, rival, silent, supply, dryer, cyclone. Like last week, we will be sorting our words based on which letter or letters make the long i sound.

Math: We are just beginning our unit on Area and Perimeter. Students are learning that the perimeter is the distance around a shape and area in the space inside a 2-dimensional shape. We are also using our measuring skills to find the perimeter of an object.

*Please continue to practice multiplication facts if your child does not already know them. This will help with finding the area of different shapes.

Science: In our Animals Through Time unit this week we discussed why some animals work and live together in a group. Next week we will learn about habitat change, the environment, and traits.

Social Studies: Our social studies test is tomorrow. Please practice the study guide that was sent home and/or the Kahoot. While we work on this daily in class, it's helpful for students to talk about and refresh their learning at home. For the writing, they will be asked to write about ONE of the explores on the back of their study guide (Cadillac, Marquette, or LaSalle). They were able to create a poster about their explorer here at school and could share that with you if they chose to complete the project on Wixie (some chose to draw and write).

Writing: We are in the beginning stages of our informational writing. We will be writing about something that we know a lot about (soccer, a pet, being a good sibling, gymnastics, etc.....)
