January 20th-24th

Here's What We've Been Up To in 3rd Grade:
Reading We've performed our latest Reader's Theater and continue to work on our Trickster Tales and literature circles. Next week we will make connections and inferences within a text.

Word Study:  Our test on long "i" vowel patterns will be Friday. We will then begin to work with long "o" patterns in accented syllables. Examples include: explode, suppose, rowboat, snowfall, unknown, stolen, rotate, notice

Math: We continue our work with Area and Perimeter. Students are learning that the perimeter is the distance around a shape and area in the space inside a 2-dimensional shape. Toward the end of this unit, we will be finding the area and perimeter of rectilinear figures.

*Please continue to practice multiplication facts if your child does not already know them.

Science: In our Animals Through Time unit, we will learn about habitat change, the environment, and traits.

Social Studies: Our next unit will focus on the War of 1812 and our relationship with Great Britain.

Writing: We are just getting started with our informational writing. Ask your child what they are an "expert" at for their topic.

SeeSaw

Thank you to the parents that have signed up! We would love any and all feedback. Students are enjoying the connection between home and school:)

We are in the early stages of trying out a new app designed to make communication between home and school easier. The app allows families to see completed work and send encouraging messages to your child about his/her accomplishments. It also allows the teacher to send quick reminders, updates, or tips about classroom activities. We are hoping that this makes communication between home and school easier! Please remember that we as teachers are learning to use the program so we welcome your feedback. If you would like to get on and try, your child's teacher will send a link in the email with today's blog information. We would love for you to try!

Winter Is Here!

Please remember the following:

1. Students go outside unless the wind chill is under 10 degrees.
2. Label all gear--many students have the same gear and confusion does happen.
3. Students must go outside unless there is a doctor's note.
