January 14th-18th

Week of January 14th-18th

Sarett Nature Center

Sarett Nature Center was a success! Ask your child about the different animal prints, snowflakes, and Native American tools that we learned about today. We also discussed the different types of snowshoes and what they would be best suited for.

Supplies
Just a reminder that this is a great time of year to refresh some of the supplies that don't make it all year. Please talk with your child and see if it he or she could use some updating. The following should be checked:

thin tipped dry erase markers
gym shoes (many have outgrown now)
earbuds/headphones (many are broken or don't work)

January 21: No School (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day)
January 25: 1/2 day of school (Dismissal 12:05)

Next Week's Schedule:

Monday:  No school
Tuesday: D Day
Wednesday:  E Day
Thursday: F Day
Friday: A Day (1/2 Day)

What we've been up to:

Reading: This week our reading groups are focusing on inferencing and making connections to text. Both of these skills are very important when it comes to the comprehension of a text. Also, as your child reads at night, encourage him/her to ask you about words that he/she does not understand or recognize. Increasing vocabulary builds strong readers. We have also begun our genre study on Trickster Tales.
Word Study: This week we have been studying pl,sh,pr,and th words.
Math: We are continuing to find the area and perimeter of polygons. Our unit test will be next week.
Science: Our new unit is on force.
Social Studies We have finished up our Econ and Me unit. We will be reviewing early next week for our test. If your child missed any of the videos, they can be found on our itslearning page.
Writing: We will begin our informational writing unit next week.

*As always, please continue to check out our classroom resources on itslearning. Students can go there often to practice skills and learn about content that we are covering in class.

All teachers welcome questions that you have. A true partnership between home and school is important for the success of each child.
